Have you ever thought about how children with autism are actually the best teachers for all of us? They are very sensitive to many of the harmful substances and elements around us and manifest their negative reactions to them very clearly. For instance, they try to isolate themselves from the noisy and polluted environment, full of chemicals and toxins. They often develop picky eating as their digestive system is sensitive to many different foods leading them to look for comforting and rewarding substances like sugary products. They immediately run away from unnecessary communication and activities that they do not enjoy doing and preserve their energy for necessary and enjoyable things.
Julie Matthews, a nutritional consultant with extensive experience working with ASD children, compares kids on the spectrum to canaries. In the past, because coal miners did not have the technology to measure the amount of toxic gases released from the earth while they working in the mines, they used canaries as an indicator of danger. If the canary stopped singing, it meant that toxic gas was leaking into the air and it was time to evacuate the workers from the mine. This was a life-saving strategy!
I think this is a brilliant comparison for children with autism! It is especially obvious with children with regressive autism who, like canaries become silent, non-verbal and regress when they accumulate too much toxicity for bodies to handle! ALL CHILDREN WITH AUTISM HAVE NUMEROUS TOXINS IN THEIR BODIES AND BRAINS!
Therefore, kids with ASD are trying to tell us something huge and important! We need to be more attentive to what they are saying and help them. This will, in turn, help us lead healthier lives too!
And of course, the best students are the parents of children with autism! They just have to be! They learn from their brilliant kids about what affects them the most, what they can not eat, what they should try to avoid when they want to stay calm and quiet or when they want to manifest their protest. Sometimes parents are overwhelmed and are not sure what their kids’ behaviour means. Or, maybe, they are perfectly aware of why their child behaves as he does, but are simply unsure of the best way to help. Therefore, together with professionals, parents can have a much greater and more profound impact. It can be a very effective collaboration indeed!
However, many parents still follow the standard set of protocols and therapies only recommended by the “old school” approach like psychiatry/psychology, occupational, speech and behavioural therapies. But the truth is that, nowadays, we have SO MANY MORE TECHNIQUES THAT CAN HELP YOUR CHILD unlock his huge potential. As the best lstudents, I hope parents can take the opportunity to learn about these techniques and methods! Many specialists work online and you can enrol in the online courses, participate in webinars or request a private online consultation. You have a wonderful opportunity to further understand the best that can be done for your child.
I am so glad to be involved in the Autism Recovery Project and to have the opportunity to talk to so many different specialists successfully working with children on the spectrum and to share this information with all of you! It is so empowering! Just recently, I had the chance to talk to Paul Baptie about the HANDLE technique that he has been practicing for more than 10 years and how this non-invasive cognitive behaviour method helps children with autism! The HANDLE method aims to provide a sensory balance to the body and brain through simple, but very powerful, repetitive movements and exercises that boost neuroplasticity in the brain.
You can watch this interview with Paul Baptie here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLQqxpnUZbE
From this video you will see how powerful simple things can be. How important it is to learn to notice the small positive changes in your child’s behaviour and encourage him in the right way to make sure his progress continues. How important it is to apply the right methods in the right way, in order to provide the best foundation for your child’s development. How different approaches work nicely and synergistically together. Paul mentions nutrition as a big fundamental factor in achieving the sensory balance in a child and I am very grateful for this remark. As you know, I am very fond of this idea – diet is the first step to your child’s recovery from autism because it provides the body with the necessary molecules, boosts the right cell responses to the stimuli and allows different organs to function properly. Furthermore, the right diet initiates a whole cascade of detoxification reactions that are absolutely vital for unblocking many of the pathways in the body.
But this blog is not about nutrition, for a change. My message for you today is that you, parents of kids on the spectrum, can be even better students if you unite your efforts with those of professional and learn about the many different techniques available to help as soon as possible! ONLY TOGETHER, PARENTS AND PROFESSIONALS CAN BE EFFECTIVE IN CHOOSING THE BEST SUTABLE WAY OF RECOVERY FOR YOUR CHILD! Professionals can bring you scientific evidence and professional interpretations of your child’s behaviour and suggest appropriate tools that you can apply. Using your parental intuition and gut feeling, you will see if these work. Thus providing us with valuable feedback, which then helps shape the individual solution for your child and many other children.
This is a journey that we can help you with! For sure, it is not a quick fix strategy, but it is definitely a winning strategy that guarantees a positive outcome and often even full recovery. All the parents that I know, who were able to help their children reverse their autism or make huge positive progress, all of them were open to trying different methods, to discussing new ways of helping their kids and to going the extra mile to achieve results. Find the way to help your child, learn about different methods and see which ones may suit your child the best. However, while you taking the time to educate yourself, please, do not waste valuable days and weeks and start a nutritional programme! As we learn from success stories, they all practiced some sort of a dietary approach. It is a must step! It is the first, and the essential way, for you to start eliminating toxicity form the body and unlock your child’s brain for learning! YOUR CHILD CANNOT BE A GOOD LEARNER IF HIS DYGESTIVE SYTEM IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY!
Start today and start together with your child and the rest of the family! Say goodbye to processed food and bring real, live food into your kitchen, into your life and start noticing the difference!
