Are you aware that 1 in 50 children in the US are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and that the number of children affected keeps increasing with a 10% annual growth, making Autism the fastest growing neurodevelopmental condition? Is this not astonishing? However, what is even more striking is the fact that AUTISM IS A REVERSIBLE CONDITION. We do not know the exact statistics, but about 10% of children recover from ASD! And this is fantastic!
But what do we mean by “recovery”? In some cases, children completely lose their diagnosis. In other cases, they may undergo a change of diagnosis from ASD to ADHD or other milder conditions, meaning a huge positive improvement and further progress ahead. We also see many cases when children became more capable, more independent and self-confident, they progress from more severe cases to more functional state. And this is also huge progress! In my opinion, these positive changes in symptoms and any beneficial development can be considered as desirable and favourable outcomes and counted as partial recovery. And aren’t such outcomes precisely what parents look and hope for? These are the improvements that lead to major changes in a child’s, and a family’s, life.
However, many people, including parents, still believe in the old dogma, which is that Autism is a genetically driven disorder that affects the brain irreversibly and that nothing can be done about it. Fortunately, this statement is no longer true and more and more cases are proving this old theory to be completely wrong. Research shows us that the genetic factor is not a major player at all! That life style factors play a much more prominent role in the switching on and off our genes and that neuroplasticity of the brain can be controlled and activated. Of course, each child with Autism is unique and individual and we cannot just say that what works for one child, will work for sure for another. However, by now we have accumulated so much knowledge and so many practical results that we now know of a number of techniques and methods that play fundamental roles in dramatic improving of autistic symptoms. It is the combination of such techniques and therapies that will vary and will depend on each individual situation.
Thanks to my exciting job, that I love, as an Autism Recovery Coach, I often come across such cases of improvements and each time I am fascinated by the outcomes! Because it is so much more than simply losing a diagnosis, it is usually a life transforming experience for the whole family. Every time, the story is incredible. For example, I am truly fascinated by the case of Gabriela Llewellyn and her son Tommy who used to be autistic, but lost his diagnosis after three years of treatment and active intervention. Interestingly, Gabriela and her husband were actually relieved when they found out the diagnosis of their 3 years old son. You may wonder how this is possible, as many other parents would be devastated, angry, frustrated, certainly not relieved. And that is the very same question I asked Gabriela! She replied with such beautiful words, “When our son was diagnosed, we realised what we had to fight with! We learned the name of our enemy and immediately started to look for a solution!” WHAT WISDOM THERE IS IN THESE WORDS!!! Instead of wasting their time and energy on asking themselves “WHY is this happening to my child?”, these parents decided on an alternative path and asked themselves a different question, “WHAT CAN WE DO in this situation to help our child?” Gabriela completed a training program with Son-Rise and applied all she had learned to her little one, alongside with active nutritional intervention. These techniques and many others led to big changes in Gabriela’s son and Tommy lost his Autism diagnosis by the time he started going to school. Now he is seven and studies in a normal school and is progressing extremely well, both academically and socially. After going through the incredible journey of helping her child recover from Autism, Gabriela decided to share her knowledge and wisdom with other parents. Now, she has her own blog and has designed a special online course for other parents with children with Autism. You can learn more about Gabriela and her son here:

Another exciting example I would like to share with you is the story of Senta Depuydt and her son Matteo, who was able completely recover from Autism. Senta’s son was developing perfectly normally until the age of 18 months when, after a regular vaccination, he started to show mental regression and was diagnosed with Autism. And, once again, the parents’ proactivity and hope for positive results were the essential conditions for their child’s recovery! Following a holistic biomedical approach based on nutrition, supplementation and detoxification programs, Senta’s son achieved enormous progress and, ultimately, complete recovery. Of course, it was not easy and simple journey and required lots of efforts and dedication from parents, but the hard work for many years has paid off! When I talked to Senta, I was amazed by this woman’s determination to help other parents by sharing her own experience and by organising a whole Vaccine Safety Project in Europe. Another interesting observation is that children who survive autism often go on to develop fantastic leadership qualities and become ambassadors of healthy living, develop strong interpersonal skills and grow up to be excellent citizens of our society. Is this not wonderful? Do not all parents dream of children like this? I sometimes even think that Autism has been “given” to us to show the direction in which our society should move forward, to teach us a better way to live and communicate, to bring our families and society together; it helps us to reconsider our life values. Would you not agree?
I hope you get my message right – I do not say that every child with Autism will definitely recover. Autism and any other neurodevelopmental conditions are so broad and unique in each case that every situation needs to be considered separately. However, if there is any chance at all that your child can get better, can improve and even partly recover, why would you not try? Senta Depuydt says “Even with one chance in 1000, you have to try it”. And we see more and more such encouraging examples.
What I have noticed, from many cases like these, is that nutritional intervention and detoxification are necessary and essential steps in the process of recovery. It is after having adopted these practices that facilitating the healing process, other methods come along in their different combinations unique to your child to support further progress. But what we know for sure, and I hope very much that I have convinced you of this as well, is that RECOVERY IS POSSIBLE and you have a chance to help your child!
